I love unposed wedding photography.
An enthusiast, introvert, empathetic, sporty,
creative, perfectionist, adventurous, wanderlust,
and a good sense of humor with a touch of self mockery.
Getting to know me
' I can freeze time, what is your superpower?'
Together with my husband, we run a family of five. We live in the small village of Broekhuizenvorst in North Limburg.
When I don’t have my camera in my hands, I love spending time with my family.
You can also often find me out in nature for a walk, or running my favorite loop.
Preferably as early as possible in the morning during sunrise. Yes, even in the summer, so running a loop at 5:00 AM? No problem at all!
Sports have always been a big part of my life.
I played football for over 25 years, as well as tennis, badminton, bootcamp, and so on.
These days, I stick to running and playing around with some weights at the gym ;)
I also absolutely love playing board games, and I turn almost everything into a friendly competition.
For example, we play Yahtzee here nearly every day, thanks to the youngest member of our family who is completely addicted to it, hahaha.
But make no mistake, it often gets very competitive!
Aside from wonderful Sunday afternoons playing games, I also love sitting on an outdoor terrace, and you used to find me at various festivals very often back in the day.
The festival days might be fewer now, but a wedding with a festival vibe? Count me in!
How it all started
Back in the day, I was always running around with my little compact camera.
Whenever I went out partying with my friends, I would always bring my camera along. The most hilarious moments were captured, and they are definitely not suitable for the internet ;)
Something like what happens in... stays in... hahaha.
My camera also always travelled with me during my trips.
And I have done quite a lot of travelling!
When I became a mother, I couldn't stop taking pictures of my child with my phone. I captured absolutely everything.
My husband even used to call me 'mama flash'.
Unfortunately, six years ago, I ended up at home suffering from depression. I spent days on end just sitting on the couch. Not very easy with a young toddler running around the house.
I needed to go outside into nature, as that was the best medicine, people kept telling me over and over again.
But of course, I was depressed and didn't want to do anything at all...
Then, after watching an episode of 'Het Perfecte Plaatje' (a Dutch photography TV show), it suddenly hit me: maybe I should buy myself a real camera. And perhaps take a little course to learn how all those buttons actually work.
That way, I would have some distraction and might even get outside a bit. A win-win situation, right?
And that is how I suddenly found myself spending entire mornings out in nature, waiting for the sun to rise.
Beautiful! Truly fantastic mornings, especially the ones with a layer of mist blanketing the fields.
' Photography is my therapy '
Out there, on one of those early mornings, it all began. My work started getting noticed. That is how I transitioned from beautiful nature landscapes to shooting families. And from families, I suddenly rolled into the world of wedding photography!
And it was wedding photography that truly sparked a fire inside me. Especially the documentary and journalistic style.
I love capturing the small stories within the big story!
That one arm around a shoulder.
That specific look.
Uncle Jack yawning extensively during the ceremony.
The toddler taking their sweet time exploring their nose with a finger.
Moms adjusting the bride's dress or straightening the groom's suit every two minutes.
The expressions on your faces when Mom does this for the 387th time.
That one special hug from Grandma.
Grandma dropping a piece of wedding cake onto her beautiful skirt.
The dog suddenly running through the crowd and jumping up on everyone with paws that were in the pond just moments before...
Well, you get the picture!
And now, I get to document the most beautiful stories of the absolute best wedding couples.
I am someone who doesn't like to sit still. I always want to keep developing myself, to keep learning and investing in my growth. That is why I very regularly follow various workshops, courses, and masterclasses in the field of wedding photography.
